You definitely can't hate the guy...he's exciting to watch and good for tennis. I'm a huge Federer fan, so rooting for Nadal is almost sacrilegious, but you can't deny the kid's skill.

tennisbum, i think your first sentence was the key: if he can stay healthy. at this moment he's got knee issues. again. yes, he's only 22 but he may not last long enough. he may end up as a monica seles who couldve/wouldve/shouldve been considered one of the best ever results-wise, but outside circumstances prevented it.

I think if Nadal can stay healthy, he could possibly top Sampras and Federer in major tournament wins! Federer won his first major when he was 22 right? (I might be wrong on that...). Nadal, at 22, already has 6 majors under his belt!!!!

So it is quite possible that Nadal could be one of the greatest tennis players of all time!! I just love his mental toughness on court! He has got to be one of the most toughest players to play against because of his mental toughness!

I wish I had that kind of mental toughness, not just for tennis, but in life and in business!

He is definitely not my player I like... but I admire his game and he appears to be a humble and authentic person. I think my inability to embrace him is that he has the type of game that I hate to come up against, a player that can run down almost any ball and always seems to come up with the big point. Being a hard hitting high risk taker... players that didn't make any mistakes just rub me the wrong way.

lol

I kinda see your point, yes even Roger will give his opponent a "good shot gesture" every once in a while but it's still pretty rare. Nadal is a very focused player, he has to be to put out as much effort as he does every single point day in and day out. He doesn't have time to think about the player across the net, he has his own game he needs to keep in check. As far as smiling goes...he's better off not smiling, he doesn't really have the movie star smile. lol

I think he's very humble off the court. On the court, it's a different story. His demeanor strikes me as borderline arrogant. When he loses a point, he never seems to give his opponent any credit. I know you gotta have your game face on, but smiling once a match wouldn't hurt, and clapping after your opponent straight up owns you during a point would be a nice change.

I like Nadal. He is a great player and good for tennis. I do agree that he is a very competitive person and sorta eccentric but we need lots of variety in life and tennis is no exception. I really enjoy all the different types of players on the mens and womens tours. It is a great sport that has the advantage on TV of seeing the emotions and the personalities of the players. Compare football..even baseball and BBall. I think the individual sports have a lot going for them. I sorta think of tennis as boxing with tennis rackets. Mikee.

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

Same here. One of my students said the most interesting thing to me the other day during class. He said that if Nadal beats Federer in the final of the US open it will instantly make him a goat, because Federer has never beaten Nadal in any major final and Nadal will have beaten the presumed GOAT = Federer. I hope her recovers well enough to do this. That will be the most exciting event in tennis history or even if they meet in the final at the open. Federer is getting old it can happen.
Sincerely
Federer FAN

Maybe.
In the beginning, I didn't like him so much. But he has won me over and now I think he is one of the most fascinating and humble players on tour.
